WALKING THROUGH THE HISTORY OF WOMEN'S HEALTH IN EDINBURGH

This walking, talking map is an OMAGEMI offshoot project, inspired by Dr Rosemary Townsend and PHD student Lizzie Wastnedge, as a way of welcoming delegates from GLOW24 conference and immersing them in the city's rich history as a global centre of innovation and research in the field of women's and newborn's health.

Proud of Edinburgh's incredible legacy in the field, Rosie and Lizzie worked with us to create a gently interactive experience for delegates and future visitors to Edinburgh. This psycho-geographical map takes the explorer on an early-morning walk, visiting key historic locations where scientific breakthroughs have, and still are, taking place. It helps walkers consider the role of women  and the city itself in medicine, the influence they have had, and how much work still needs to be done.

Rosie is a Clinician Researcher, and part of the GLOW 24 organising committee. She conceived the route of the walk, Lizzie drew the original map, with Francesca Dale writing the narrative and Tom Harris designing the beautiful map.
